65. An Madra agus an Chaíora.

Chuir an madra an dlí ar an gcaoirigh ag éileamh fiach. Do glaodh an chúis. An machtíre agus préachán na gcearc an dá bhreitheamh. Níor lean an triail i bhfad. Do tugadh an bhreith i bhfabhar don mhadra. Do mhairbh an madra an chaíora, agus thug sé cuid mhaith den fheóil don dá bhreitheamh.

An Múineadh.

Níl feall is measa ná an feall a dheineann an breitheamh a ghlacann breab. Is ar fhírinne agus ar dhílse an bhreithimh a bhíonn gach éinne ag brath chun cirt dlí ’ dh’fháil. Nuair a ghlacann an breitheamh an bhreab baintear na cosa ón gceart. Deintear éagóir i riocht cirt.

Foclóirín

caíora: “sheep”, or caora in the CO. Pronounced /ki:rə/. The dative would logically be caoirigh, as given in the original, possibly pronounced /ki:rʹigʹ/, but as the plural, traditionally spelt caoirigh too, is caoire, /ki:rʹi/, in WM Irish, I am unsure about the dative singular here.
préachán na gcearc: “hen-harrier; kite”.
